Hello, you're tuned into SNiPs, a reoccurring special segment from our ongoing series, Fractals: Life Science Conversations. Bracken is the professional services firm for life sciences and digital health organizations. Our intelligence ecosystem fulfils consulting, regulatory, marketing and analytics, an integrated and strategic approach.

We both know that data doesn't just drive business, it's becoming a foundational pillar across industries, but the life sciences, and always has been, but perhaps siloed. So how, in your view, does an integrated approach mean? What does that look like?

And how do you evaluate an integration across data platforms or across data?

[Ben Mitchell]

Yeah, I think there's two sides of integration to me that are really important. One is the people and then the other is the platforms. And I'll kind of touch on both.

So, starting with the people, it's very easy to have teams that are strong in the lane that they're strong in, you know, analytics folks who you give them a data set, they can run a really great regression on it. They can find good information and make a beautiful chart. But if they don't know what they need, what's the driving force in the business, they might never ask the right question.

They might never figure out, you know, how do we go from an actual business deliverable that's relevant? How do we get that out of a data set? They might not know.

And the reverse of that is when you're working with other teams who might not be as tech savvy, they might not know what the possibilities are. So, you'll get people who will say, well, we need this result, but we don't know how to go about getting that result. And if they're not sure the right question to ask, when that gets relayed to an analytics team, you might get a lot of this is word for word what you told us you wanted, but it's not really the right approach to it.

So, integration on one hand is making sure those teams are well collaborated and understand what the other's needs and sort of capabilities are to be able to adequately and effectively get good results. And then the other side of it is the technological approach in that there are so many tools and systems out there nowadays. I mean, even looking at Bracken, we have a number of different platforms within our tech stack.

A lot of those pieces of information are siloed from the get-go. You know, there are some applications that try to integrate with each other, send some data back and forth, but it's not always simple. There's not always an easy, you know, you take some output here and you send it as input into another system and you can run with that.

And I think that is a huge, missed opportunity for a lot of teams that don't have somebody or don't have the ability to integrate those platforms together because there can be so much lost data in the translation when you're going from platform A to platform B and just lost efficiency.
